Our Step-By-Step Process
We treat each client’s enquiry as an individualised project. That means we listen to your structural steel needs and work through our step-by-step production process to ensure quality and accuracy within your required timeframe. It also means you can contact us at any time for an update on where we are at with your steelwork, including an expected completion date.
Meeting & Quote
We meet with each client to ensure we understand a project, offer advice, and detail what we can offer. We offer a free quote on all structural steel projects. We produce an estimate based on a full take off from the drawings. We highlight gaps in the design if we see them so the builder can tag/highlight these so no surprises later. This safeguards the builder and the client.
Plans
We prepare project plans or review the architectural plans supplied to us. We require consented plans, engineer drawings, architectural plans and ideally prenail workshop drawings.
RESOLVE-RFI
Our resolve process drills down on the consultants design to fine tune the details so we draw and build the steel. We use RFIs(Request for Information) to meet the standard and design requirements.
Approval on Drawings
We will check with all parties to ensure the final project drawings are accurate, within spec., and meet the client’s requirements. These drawings may be architectural plans, or they may be 3D Detailed Plans prepared by our in-house 3D Design team.
Coatings
In many instances, the coating required for each piece of steel within a building is not specified in the plans. When such ambiguity is present, we create a coatings schedule from CAD drawings, in accordance with the specific requirements of SNZ TS 3404:2018, for approval by the principal and signing engineer.
Steel Purchase
Once we know everyone is on the same page, we will purchase the high-quality structural steel required to complete the project. This should arrive in our workshop within 24 hours.
Quality Assurance
Councils now require full information and disclosure about the standard of steel used in New Zealand buildings. This includes proof that steel used meets New Zealand Standards and originates from certified mills. Pengelly Engineers sources steel only from companies that are members of the Structural Steel Distributor Charter.
SSSP
For every project we prepare Site Specific Safety Plans to ensure the safety of our team, our clients, and other contractors on-site. Compliance documentation. To achieve code of compliance we will supply our PS3 and welding documentation.
Steel Installation
We then complete the project construction and install the steel with the builder. This may be in our West Auckland workshop, or may be on-site. We take the time to work in with other subcontractors and ensure positive communication with our clients through every step of the process.
PS3
At the completion of the project we will issue a PS3 to confirm that the steel construction work is in accordance with the consent plans and building code.
